Spain is the healthiest country in the world!

Spain is the healthiest country in the world!
4 Apr 2019

The newspapers could not stop writing about it last week; Spain has been declared the healthiest country in the world. The American press agency Bloomberg presented these results, comparing and adding together research reports from the World Health Organization, the United Nations and the World Bank, among others. Factors such as eating habits, clean air and water supplies, mental health and life expectancy were included in the results.

Spain owes the first place among other things thanks to the Mediterranean diet. Unprocessed fruits and vegetables, nuts, fresh fish and olive oil , all which reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and prevent diseases such as diabetes. Apart from the fact that the Spaniards do not have to go to the doctor so often, healthcare is also very good when they do have to. Spain, where you can choose between private or public insurance, has many specialized doctors and good clinics.

Even when we look at the climate, it is not surprising that people feel healthy and happy in Spain; mainly on the coasts, where the temperatures are pleasant and people live outside all year round. The combination of sea and mountains, certain plant and tree growth and the pleasant Mediterranean climate ensure particularly pure skies. People are also provided with an abundance of vitamin D and the "happy hormone" Serotonin every day. Is very well known that since many decades people go to Spain to cure health problems. Health problems  such as breathing problems, eczema, rheumatism and overstrain are known to improve considerably  while staying on the Spanish coasts.

At the previous edition of the Bloomberg Healthiest Country Index (2017), Italy was still number one, but that country now dropped to second place. The Netherlands finished at number 15 and Belgium at number 28. With an age of 86, Spain has the highest life expectancy in Europe. If you want to grow old in a healthy way, it is best to leave for Spain and fill the days with eating fish and fresh salads fried in olive oil. Then preferably on a terrace by the sea, where you catch enough vitamin D and breathe in clean air. Doesn't sound bad, does it?
